This month the Reading Across the Pond book group read The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon. At 640 pages long it was a bit of a struggle to read in just one month, but the three members who did finish it (well done to them!) gave it rave reviews. We found it a difficult book to classify (it covers the Eastern European emigrant experience, Jewish Americans in World War II, Harry Houdini and escapism, and the history of comic books and superheroes), but we agreed that it was beautifully written and encouraged the rest of the book group to keep reading. We’ll discuss the book again when we meet in September.
