My Life in France by Julia Child
A wonderful account of Julia Child’s experiences in France in the 1950’s and 60s, this book shares her growing passion for French food and the writing of her cook book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Child has a flair for description and a keen wit and skilfully weaves together the story of her publications and rise to fame along with her friendships and opinions about life in both France and America. A book not to be missed!

Despite being a cookbook this is a very enjoyable read, with many observations about French life and culture. Has been in print since first publication in 1964!
Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously by Julie Powell
While not as vibrant as Julia Child’s memoir, this book is an interesting account of the continued influence and importance of her writing. Also would recommend the movie by the same title if don’t feel like reading!
