We’d like to extend our sincere thanks to BJ Epstein for making our discussion of Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn last night so engaging! Over time this book has been challenged for a number of reasons (ranging from the use of dialect to the use of racial language to the depiction of children running away from home). BJ’s insights into Swedish and Norwegian translations of the book were particularly fascinating.
The Reading Across the Pond book group seemed to enjoy this title. (Hooray!) Several members commented that this was the second time they’d read the book and that they appreciated it much more the second time around.
If you are interested in learning more about banned books, the Millennium Library is holding a general discussion evening this Thursday 13th October, 6-7.30pm in the Millennium Library. Booking is essential: contact Charlene at 01603 774702 or charlene.brookes@norfolk.gov.uk
