Those of you who attended Yvonne Tasker’s lecture on military women during World War II here at the 2nd Air Division Memorial Library in November 2011 will be pleased to hear that her new book Soldiers’ Stories: Military Women in Cinema and Television Since World War II has (finally!) arrived.
This title provides a comprehensive analysis of representations of military women in film and TV since the 1940s. Throughout, Tasker relates female soldiers’ provocative presence to contemporaneous political and cultural debates and to the ways that women’s labour and bodies are understood and valued.
