Niece of the 392nd

Today we had the honour of meeting Laurie Bedus, whose uncle, John E. Slowik, was a navigator in the 392nd Bomb Group based at Wendling, Norfolk. He died during the 18 March 1944 mission over Fredrichshafen, during which the 392nd suffered its heaviest losses.

Laurie has been writing a book about her uncle’s journal over the last 13 years, and is visiting Norfolk (all the way from Connecticut!) to follow her uncle’s footsteps during the war. She has been guided by John Gilbert, our very knowledgable Wendling base contact.

Here Laurie stands with the 2nd Air Division Roll of Honour, opened to the page bearing John E. Slowik’s name.

Laurie Bedus and the Roll of Honour

We wish Laurie all the best, as she hopes to complete her project this year!
